Youth Leader Job Description
Background: Life Church is a vibrant community church which is part of the Pioneer Network. It has a growing youth and children’s ministry involving 31 young people and 10 unpaid leaders and helpers across three groups covering school years 7 to 13.
The church partnership is around 142. The church gathers together as one on Sunday each week. In addition, the church, runs a lunch club for those who would eat alone, a full range of children’s work from ages 0-11, home groups for adults, and a young adults’ group alongside regular Alpha and Freedom in Christ courses. We support various community groups through the use of our premises including hosting Lichfield foodbank.
The church staff comprises of a paid Senior Minister, a Church Manager and a Pastoral Coordinator.
The church building is modern and well equipped and comprises of a meeting space, sports hall, office space, lounge and a number of smaller meeting rooms.
The current youth provision includes a weekly Thursday night meeting for school years 7-13, a fortnightly Sunday morning session for school years 7-9 and a weekly Sunday evening meeting for school years 10-13. In addition, the youth team produce a minimum of two youth services each year and arrange termly social events. The youth group have also attended Soul Survivor for the last few years and an activity weekend away.
The post is available for a period of 2 years from 1st September 2020 but the start date may be delayed by the restrictions in force during the coronavirus pandemic.
Job Title: Youth Leader
Responsible to: Senior Leadership Team
Line manager: Senior Minister [with additional input from the Core Leadership Team member responsible for Youth and Children’s Work]
Aim: To develop a sustainable ministry that allows young people (school years 7-13) to transition through church life and into adulthood, whether from a church background or not.
Key functions of the Role:
- To provide overall leadership of the planning for the youth work of Life Church
- To coordinate the teams that deliver the Life Church youth programme
- To ensure that the programme is inclusive. The postholder will be expected to liaise with parents and carers of young people who may have additional needs, to ensure that their needs are met.
- To propose a programme of activities and Christian content which is appropriate for the ages and abilities of the young people in the youth ministry of Life Church
- To take a lead role in delivering the youth programme of the church
- To support Life Church’s vision to ‘Grow a community of God’s grace serving the world’.
- To arrange and attend a summer camp plus a weekend away with the group and other opportunities to gather with youth groups and church groups regionally.
